While the Thanksgiving holiday can be a time of joy for many, it can also pose challenges for children with autism who experience sensory sensitivities and/or difficulty adapting to changes in their routine and new social situations. Autism Speaks has shared some helpful tips for addressing some of these challenges and successfully navigating the Thanksgiving holiday. Some tips include using an illustrated teaching story to show children what changes to expect in their routines and also creating a quiet space where they can retreat to when waiting for dinner to begin.
